Apple launched iPhone
3
Apple launched the much awaited and definitely the most resourceful of its products on June 29, 2007. Costing around $499 (Rs. 20,000) yes its correct.. its cheaper than some Nokia N series phones. Why do u want to have a Nokia N series or Ericsson W series? I guess many people purchase that just to listen to music. Then believe Apple - famous for their iPods- when they say they have launched ‘The best iPod they have ever made’. Yes, it does seem to be the best iPod I have ever tried out.
iPhone is not just a cellphone, it has loads of other features embedded in it. Navigation is one of the best features provided ever. Just through a tip of your finger you can select, move, scroll… I loved scrolling on it… you just need to move your finger on the screen either up or down. You can also zoom in or out wherever you want with your fingers… Thats the best touch screen I’ve ever seen…

Address book is so well customized that you can search buddies on you list very easily. You can access Internet on your iPhone. It has an explorer (Safari) with it to open any pages of your choice. Google is the default search engine but you can easily search with yahoo or other search engines too….
One of the new features provided with iPhone is the use of Google Maps. You can get directions where you want to go, have favorites locations, search for hotels, schools and even get their complete details like phone no., address, etc.
You can turn your iPhone horizontally or vertically, it can automatically detect its position and provide you a better access for that application. Movies can be played in wide screen mode as well as full screen mode but only in landscape. You can check the share market prices and can even check it in a graphical form for any of the duration like a day, a week or a year. You can watch youtube videos and can even invite other to watch by just sending and email. There are two ways to view pictures, one directly push on through the computer through USB or click with an integrated 2MP camera.
Apple challenges that the iPhone keypad is the easy to use keypad and you can type faster than any other. iPhone comes with a headset with a microphone and a control panel. It uses the most advanced Operating System, has an access to the best application softwares like Calendar, SMS, weather, Stocks, Notes, Maps, Safari, Address books, Email and more. It supports AT&T’s EDGE network, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR, which links to Apple’s new, remarkably compact Bluetooth headset.
Attractions: What attracts people is the size of the iphone (it measures 115×61×11.6mm -a widescreen ipod), its extraordinary sensing capability, and a storage space of 4 or 8 gigabyte and a multi touch display with qwerty keyboard.
Battery Life:
- 8 hours talk time
- 24 hours of music playback
- 7 hours of video playback
- 6 hours on Internet use
- The promised standby time is 10.4 days. According to the FCC, the iPhone has a digital SAR rating of 0.974 watts per kilogram.
Cost: $499 for 4GB and $599 for 8GB (US Dollars)
Sensors:
“iPhone’s accelerometer detects the rotation of the device from portrait to landscape, then automatically changes the contents of the display, so you immediately see the entire width of a web page or a photo in its proper landscape aspect ratio. The proximity sensor detects when you lift iPhone to your ear and immediately turns off the display to save power and prevent inadvertent touches until iPhone is moved away. An ambient light sensor automatically adjusts the display’s brightness to the appropriate level for the current ambient light, thereby enhancing the user experience and saving power at the same time.”

I did a small research on iphone and here is my suggestion:
Today most of the people uses maps to find their way, they use maps.google.com and find their way to destination. iphone has an inbuilt maps with search through google maps too. Now you wont need to write down your ways before you leave, u just need to carry your cellphone, thats all. This feature may not be used in India as of today, but would be needful in next couple of years. Finding ways in other countries is very difficult as compared to India.
But I heard from many people that iphone would be more better if it would have GPS in it.
So, overall I rate iphone as 4/5

This is an Answer for Neha’s Question.
Iphone wouldnt be launched in India very soon… It would take a year or so and I guess the current version would be in India as soon as a new version of Iphone is released.
About the cost, it would certainly be more in India at start, would probably be around 40K.
techtarzan | Jul 8, 2007 | Reply

Dear techtarzan,
Any new technology is always hot in Indian market… The company strategy is to make it more and more hot by waiting by few days in India and finally release it at a very high cost….The actual cost would not be so much but Initially until the market is hot they would definitely sell their product at a cost more than 40 to 50K… Later the cost would come down at 20 to 25K

i think this phone works with VOIP and presently there is no service provider atleast in India so that iphone can work here. Are there any service provider in other countries through which iphone works?
Ronald | Jul 24, 2007 | Reply
Yes, u are right. There is no VOIP service provider in India. US has AT&T and cingular service provider. Recently AT&T has increased their speed of communication to energize their service.
